Ricky Aguiar Leaves York City for Worthing FC
Released York City midfielder Ricky Aguiar has re-united with a former boss of the Minstermen. Aguiar, who joined York in the Summer of 2024, was one of 12 players to leave City at the end of the 2025/26 campaign as a free agent.
What Happened?
Aguiar will stay in the Enterprise National League, having signed for division newcomers Worthing. Worthing head into the fifth tier for the first time in their history, led by former York manager Adam Hinshelwood. In an 18-month spell with the Minstermen, Hinshelwood led City from relegation candidates to promotion chasers, finishing in second on 96 points.
Why it Matters for York
Aguiar played 33 times for York City in the 2024/25 season. He wasn't included in a squad for the Minstermen last season, and spent the majority of the campaign out on loan to the National League South with Horsham, playing alongside fellow loanee Leone Gravata. Aguiar then finished the campaign back in the National League on loan at Eastleigh, before his contract expired with York.
What Comes Next?
Aguiar will be in action in tonight's friendly against QPR U21s at Woodside. Speaking on his return to Worthing, Aguiar told club media: “Returning feels special to me, and I’m coming back with more experience and hunger. “It’s a club with big ambition and I’m proud to be a part of what’s being built and excited to be back playing in front of fans back at Woodside.”
Worthing head into the fifth tier for the first time in their history, led by former York manager Adam Hinshelwood. Hinshelwood added: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Ricky back to Woodside Road. “He is a player with immense quality in possession and can score goals from a wide range of positions, just like he did for us in his loan spell a few years ago. “I can’t wait to be back working with Ricky on a daily basis, he adds a lot of depth to our midfield options.”
