Departures and Uncertain Futures
York City manager Scott Lindsey confirmed Greg Olley's exit to AFC Fylde following his departure earlier this week. The 28-goal attacker, who led the team in pre-season goals, left after a difficult conversation about his role in the squad. Lindsey admitted the decision was tough, citing squad size as the main factor. 'I felt the squad was maybe a bit too big,' he said. 'Greg came under the list of who wouldn't play much, and we had a frank conversation.'
Shelton, a new signing from Barnet and Oldham Athletic, remains unsigned for competitive matches. Despite a three-year contract, he hasn't featured in York's Carabao Cup exit or league opener. Lindsey said conversations about his potential departure are ongoing but declined to comment. 'I don’t know too much about that,' he said. 'There has been talk, but I don’t want to go too deep.'
Transfer Rumors and Incoming Targets
Lindsey dismissed rumors of incoming strikers, including Fylde's Danny Ormerod, whom he admitted he doesn't know. 'I don’t know who he is, personally,' he said. 'I’ve certainly not spoken to anyone about him.' While he acknowledged interest in a striker before the window closes, no specific targets have been discussed. 'Those conversations are continuing, but there’s been no individual players spoken about,' he added.
Lindsey also emphasized the importance of retaining key players like Brookes and Palmer, stating they are 'still with us' and training daily. The manager acknowledged the pressure of quick decisions in his first weeks at the club, but stressed the need to finalize transfers before the deadline.
