A former player of Guernsey FC has expressed his excitement over being selected as a York City 'legend' for a day during an upcoming Legends match. The manager spent three seasons with the club, including one in the Football League when York was relegated. He shared that he would take the honor, stating, 'That’s the reason why I’m there, I don’t know if a couple of seasons means they’ll class you as a legend, but I’ll take it.'
The Legends match against Leeds United will feature several big names from both clubs. Merris, the former player, mentioned that he would be facing some well-known Leeds stars from the late 1990s and early 2000s, such as Irish defender Ian Harte, goalkeeper Neil Sullivan, Lee Trundle, and former England international Carlton Palmer.
The match will take place at Tadcaster Albion tomorrow at 2pm. Despite York City and Leeds United not being considered rivals due to their geographical proximity, the event is expected to be a significant occasion for both sets of fans. The two clubs are separated by just 50 miles but operate at different levels in the football pyramid.
