York City have confirmed that captain Callum Howe is leaving the club after three seasons.
What happened?
Howe's departure comes after the club offered him a new deal ahead of the 2026/27 season. However, the defender has instead agreed to join Enterprise National League side Scunthorpe United from July 1.
Why it matters for York
Howe's leadership at the back helped the Minstermen secure final day safety in his first season with the club. He played 42 times in his first season and was involved in every match for a City side that reached 96 points in the following campaign.
What comes next?
The 32-year-old leaves after 125 appearances, 6 goals and 40 clean sheets, an impressive record for the centre-back. As of the end of the 2025/26 season, York City are 1st in the National League, with 108 points from 46 games, and a recent form of DWWWW.
