Josh Stones Commits to York with New Five-Year Deal

York City have secured the future of striker Josh Stones, who has agreed a bumper five-year contract to stay with the Minstermen. Stones was subject to transfer interest this Summer, with York reportedly knocking back an offer from Sky Bet League One side Sheffield Wednesday.

What happened?

The striker is going nowhere though, having agreed an extended deal of five years to remain at the LNER Community Stadium until 2031.

Why it matters for York

The news comes less than two months after the 22-year-old scored the goal at Rochdale which won City the Enterprise National League title. Stones first signed for York in January 2025 from Wigan Athletic, and has quickly become a fan favourite for some memorable performances in the last year and five months.

What comes next?

He was an integral part of the Minstermen’s promotion-winning campaign, scoring 18 goals in 40 appearances under manager Stuart Maynard. Commenting on the new contract, Stones said: “It has been in talks now for a long time. “I’m buzzing it’s finally over the line.”
